Seems strange making a posting that isn't Agent Orange related!!!
I recently did these dino character designs for a friend of mine, Liem Nguyen. I'll fill you more in about what the project is as it goes along, but basically... it's a video game!!! Very fun stuff.

In other news... I saw the new Transformers movie, which I have to admit, I was VERY excited to see (which I'm sure comes at no surprise to you all, seeing it is all about robots!) First of all, let me say that the action, amount of robot screen time, battles, and even story were pretty awesome.
But sadly, the movie failed tremendously due to it's high level of rude humor and sexual content.
Twas a sad day indeed for ol' Rawlsy. Definitely NOT for kids. (or adults trying to keep their minds clean for that matter!)

AGENT ORANGE sketch dump!
These are all from my sketchbook while riding the train to or from work. I'd really like to colour a couple of them, but we'll see if I have time. The one with Orange in the construction vehicle fighting the dino was strictly for the little boy in all of us. (Yes, even the little boy in you girls out there!)
And as usual, my many thanks for all the kind comments and support my friends... I luff ya!

Where The Wild Things Are

I just recently had the honor of contributing to an AMAZING project entitled -
Terrible Yellow Eyes.
Keep an eye on this one folks! Put together by Cory Godbey, Terrible Yellow Eyes is a tribute to the talented Maurice Sendak and his creation, Where the Wild Things Are. With an ever growing cast of uber awesome artists, this project has big plans in the works!! I'll keep you posted on it for sure, but do take some time to check it out and stay up to date on it.

UPDATE - New GOBELINS Annecy films are up.

Just a little personal banner that I did for the upcoming POPGUN Volume 4. I've been informed that it should be out some time around December. A little later that I had thought, but I suppose there is a lot that goes into putting together such a collaborative books such as this.
These last images were coloured by my 2 year old daughter. She wanted to do some colouring, so I decided to introduce her to the digital world. I helped her draw the faces. ...There always has to be a happy and a sad face ...and they always need hair.

And lastly... The cinematic opening animation from the new Beatles Rock Band game is amazing! Great inspiring work yet again from our friends at Passion Pictures.

Saturday, May 30, 2009

So my Agent Orange comic for POPGUN Volume 4 is officially done! Hooray!
This is just a little teaser, but I promise to post more for you as the days roll on. The book should be in stores by this December!!! It would be nice to have it sooner, but volume 3 just came out a little while ago, and there is a lot of logistics to deal with before printing can happen. Until then, I'll make sure to share some more goodies with ya!

Howdy folks!
Many of you already know the talented Mr. Sean "Cheeks" Galloway...
and most of you are, or should be, aware of the recent completion of his Kuta character vinyl from his Bastion's 7 line of characters.
Sean is including art cards in each of the boxes, drawn by different artists. He was kind enough to save one spot open and have a competition to nab that spot. This is my tiny attempt at capturing some sort of epic moment for Kuta.
In the words of Cheeks - Hope ya'll diggs!

Some more boards from work! Theses were done some time ago for the opening of the show - One Million Acts of Green, for CBC. I've personally never watched the show, (or even that other show, The Hour with George Strombo-what's his name, which we also did the opening for)... but I really enjoyed doing the boards for it. I would have also liked to have done the actual animation for this sequence, but it was passed off to one of my co-workers.

This beautiful work of animation is done by a fellow named Nelson Boles. I couldn't find out too much about this film, such as what was used to animate it, or even much info on Nelson himself, other than he was/is a student at Calarts.

You can also check out his Vimeo profile HERE,

and some more of his animation on Youtube.

I just posted this video up on CGHub's Recent Articles for everyone to see, but I loved it so much I had to post it on my blog as well. So if you frequent the Hub, sorry for the double posting. And if anyone knows more about Nelson, feel free to fill me in on this talented little fellow.

HAPPY MOTHERS DAY

Apparently, Agent Orange and Rex Bunyan shop at the same cheesy shirt store. Needless to say, I think Rex is more excited about it than Orange is.

“ Following development in the premortal existance, each of God’s spirit children has the opportunity to come to Earth and aquire a mortal body that, when Ressurected, will be bound with the Spirit to form an inseperable eternal soul. Providing mortal bodies for God’s spirit children is a work given to mortal beings, with the greater measure of responsibility falling on the Mothers, who conceive, sustain, carry and give birth to children. President Spencer W. Kimball said, ”Mothers have a sacred role. They are partners with God... He has placed women at the very headwaters of the human stream.”
"No more sacred word exists in secular or holy writ than that of Mother."

Here are some boards that I did at work for an opening of a show called love inc. We pitched this (my idea) along with a couple of others. My idea wasn't chosen, so I figured it was blog worthy.

Sheridan College Films

My most sincerest love and thanks goes to ALL the graduating students from Sheridan this year! I had the privilege of representing my work (Bigstudios) at the Industry Day screening of the final films ....and let me tell you, they were AWESOME! Much, MUCH congrats to all you talented individuals, staff and students, who made that day as amazing as it was. You've inspired me to be better at what I do!
And if you are a company who's hiring.... HIRE ALL of these amazing artists! I would, if I could!
If you'd like to see some pics from the day, there are some over on Mark Mayerson's blog.
I just happen to be in the background of 3 of the ones at the bottom!!
Mark will be screening a selection of this year's films at the Bloor Cinema in Toronto on Tuesday, June 9 at 7 p.m. and again on Wednesday June 10 at 9:30. Admission will be $5 and it's open to the public.

Happy Earth day!

Happy Earth day everyone! This special message of course comes from Agent Green... the environmentally conscience one of the bunch. Green is much more in touch with nature than the other Agents. ... comes with the colour I think!
And in other great news!...
I am honored to say that after I'm finished up with POPGUN Volume 4, I will have the great, GREAT privilege of being a part of what is going to be a spectacular book that you ALL need to look into getting. - THE ANTHOLOGY PROJECT - The roster of the artists involved with this project is enough to make you wet yer pants! The website was just recently put up for viewing, so head over and check out the amazing list of artists and their work.
Also, if you happen to be attending the Calgary Comic Con, check out table #509... a few of the folks will be there representing all of us and will have some promotional goodies to give out/for sale!
So CHECK IT OUT!

Thursday, April 16, 2009

These are just some quick little sketches I did at work while I had some free time (which is rare). My good friend Will would draw these weird little doodles on post it notes, and I'd elaborate on them. What you see here is what I saw in those little doodles. They kind of look like a mix of my talented friends, Jake Parker and Thomas Perkins.... except, they'd probably do 'em way cooler.

In other news... some kind soul on deviant art sent me a link to an article - HERE. Kind of scared me at first, but I came to realize that it shouldn't really effect me at all. Green Lantern has been around for a loooong time, and who am I to contend that. Lots of people in the world have the same name, but still remain individuals. Agent Orange will continue to stand strong on his own. ...and who knows, this might even bring him some more attention!

Oh... and CHECK THIS SITE OUT! So cool.

So yours truly has a little blurb in the latest issue of Imagine FX. I think this is the right cover image... I havn't picked it up as of yet! I just have a short little questionnaire basically about Agent Orange. So pick this issue up when you can... IT'S PINK!!! (should be Orange, haha!)

Happy Easters Everyone!

I am the gatekeeper of my own destiny and I will have my glory day in the hot sun.

Friday, April 3, 2009

I was originally going to save a posting like this for when Agent Orange really got going... but I was prompted to do it now by my friend Kizer Grey. AMAZING artist! He sent me this pick of Orange that he did a few days ago... and it made me want to get him to draw the book for me! So good. I can totally see this animated, can't you?!
And for your information - at the back of every issue of Agent Orange will be 5 - 6 pages dedicated to super awesome guest artists! I really want to do a book not just for myself, but use it in a way to shine light on other talented artists that I look up to and who inspire me. Ranging from students to industry professionals, the plan is to not only show a nice pin up that I'll get them to do for the book, but also provide a little information about them and how to check out more of their stuff.
Basically, to help creatively inspire others with art by those who creatively inspire me...
Creating an inspiring artistic community. Everybody gets inspired and we all move forward.
Here is just a couple of Kizer's work and a link to his CGHUB profile. Enjoy... and thanks Mr. Grey!

Hey everyone! These are just some quick character concept designs that I recently did for a show opening at work. The actual opening won't be quite like this, but these are just to give some kind of direction. The opening will be more of a puppet-like stop motion thing with real photo images of people and elements. Should be fun.
ALSO - Some new Pixar UP spots. Enjoy!

And another "extended clip" can be seen here on MSN
And a featurette here on the Pixar Blog

Sunday, March 22, 2009

Hey everyone. Kind of a strange post this week. I've been MEGA busy lately and find I've had little or no time for personal drawing. I basically did this quick little thing just to rant about the foolishness of smoking, and to help you all get to know Agent Yellow a little better. He's not very compassionate as you can tell. Orange makes up for it though.

Here are a couple of other great anti-smoking ads with some innovative ideas and animation.
- 'Magical Amount' - By Curious Pictures
- 'Ravens' - By Buck studios

Also... remember to give our friend Rex Bunyan some love!

Saturday, March 14, 2009

Hey there kiddies... sorry this posting is more of the photo genre, but at least there are still drawings in it! I just wanted to let you all know I'm workin away at getting the Agent Orange story done for POPGUN volume 4. I thought I'd give you an inside look into my little world of back aches and wrist cramps!

I also wanted to give you guys this link from an inspiring article entitled - 7 Creative Principles by John Lasseter. Very good advice. Have a great weekend everyone!

Much Music Promo from Rawls on Vimeo.
This video is my most recent work for Much Music. Just a 30 second promo that was done relatively quick, but very fun to work on and I think it turned out pretty nice. The guys at Much supplied all the imagry and text, and all I needed to do was animate it all and add the special touches and details.
This sketch I did really quick a couple of days ago for a forum challenge on CGHub.
And lastly, a new UP trailer is online now. Check it out.

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Not a super post like the last few, just something simple. The first sketch isn't mine... even though I wish it was! It was done by one of my little nieces. I was working on something else at the time and didn't even notice that she had drawn Agent Orange. Needless to say, it was a nice surprise. The second image was just something quick I threw together for a banner on CG Hub.
If you haven't checked the Hub out yet, you really should. Great site with amazing artists. You should probably join.
Also, remember to check out the most recent REX BUNYAN.

Sneak Peek

Well... I finally decided that you've ALL been so supportive and inspiring to me, that it was time that I ought to show you a little sneak peek of some Agent Orange pages.
The first two are from a test that I did, just to figure out timing (How quick I could get a page done from start to finish). The third image is the first page from Volume One.

ALSO, you might like to know... AGENT ORANGE will be making his FIRST printed appearance to the public in POPGUN: VOLUME 4! Published by Image Comics. Hoooray!!! The awesome guys putting the book together got a hold of me and asked me if I'd like to contribute to the book. I had to think about it of course... for about 2 seconds. So keep yer eyes out for it my friends, and I'll keep you up dated on the work, and the release date for the book!

Monday, February 16, 2009

This sketch was a direct result to comments made on the last posting. Some of you thought it might be a nice idea to see Mr. Orange in some other gear, like his deep sea pressure suit.
So there ya go my friends! Enjoy.

And I hope everyone is checking out the new REX BUNYAN comics, every Monday!!

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Greetings all...time for an image dump. A dude and vehicle sketches from the train, and a sketch of Agent Orange under water, which will eventually come up in a later book of AO!
(Of course, he doesn't need the suit to breath, but it helps keep his parts at an equal pressure when going to great depths... and it looks cooler. I suppose it would make a good toy variation too. "Aqua Adventure Orange", or something like that).
Oh, and this image I did just for fun. I had a free moment and thought I'd do a little sketch for my buddy, the talented Mr. Jake Parker. It's of his character Missile Mouse havin it out with Orange. Jake is presently working on the Missile Mouse Graphic Novel.

UPDATE
TRANSFORMERS 2 TRAILER!

Greetings all! I was looking through my vast reference library of books on my shelf, and I found this HUGE old encyclopedia of tanks. So... I had to draw one.
I figured that the Agents could open one of these puppies up like a can of sardines, seeing as they would probably know all the weak spots. We can see our friend Orange going for one right away... the warm fleshy center. Don't ask me why Purple is there though. ... moral support?!?

Also in the creative world... check out this commercial for Coke, done by the talented folks over at Psyop.

And remember... New Rex Bunyan comic every Monday!!
